# Noemi Impellizzeri Found Dead in Her Home as Ex Boyfriend Under Investigation

A 33-year-old Sicilian mother of three was found hanged from a rope inside her own home in Riposto, a small town south of Catania this past weekend. The only person under investigation is **Tony Proietto**, the ex-boyfriend the family says was still close to her, though he insists the two were merely friends.
Proietto’s own account of the night reads like the worst possible version of a domestic tragedy. He says that on the evening of the fateful day, Noemi called him while sobbing, telling him she had bought a rope and was looking on YouTube for instructions on how to hang herself. **”I did not think she was serious, and now I feel guilty,”** he said. When her phone stopped answering that night, he went to her apartment, found her body, and — according to his own words — **did nothing**.
*”I could have called an ambulance, and everything would be clearer by now. I called her mother, but no one answered. I tried to reach her brother, but he would not listen to me”* — all at 2 a.m., three hours before neighbors called the fire brigade because of the smell of smoke.
The fire, investigators now believe, may have been set **after** the killing to destroy evidence of a possible femicide. Proietto himself raises this possibility when asked why a house that was not on fire hours earlier suddenly produced smoke: **”There was no fire in the house. I cannot explain it.”** His own hypothesis: Noemi had recently begun seeing another man.
The family — her parents, her sister Valentina, and her two other brothers — is certain Noemi did not kill herself. The sister told local media, without hesitation: **”It was him.”** Proietto, 46, returned to Italy from the Netherlands recently and works odd jobs. His lawyer Ivan Siragusa maintains that his client cooperated fully and voluntarily handed over his phone.
CCTV footage from the neighborhood, forensic results, and a full phone analysis of both Noemi’s and Proietto’s devices are expected to resolve the key questions in the coming weeks.
The funeral was held in Riposto on Thursday.
