The Magnificent Seven — Nvidia, Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta and Tesla — hit a combined market capitalisation of $23.885 trillion on Thursday, exceeding the projected 2026 GDP of the entire European Union by $855 billion. The number is not just a milestone; it is a marker of a structural shift in where global economic value is being created and concentrated.
How we got here
Nvidia added $442 billion in a single session, closing Thursday at $5.517 trillion — more than Germany’s annual GDP and about 1.5 times Italy’s total public debt. The chipmaker went from $1 trillion (May 2023) to $2 trillion in 9 months, to $3 trillion in 4 more months, to $4 trillion in July 2025, and to $5 trillion three months later. The acceleration is the story.
Apple took 42 years to reach its first trillion (August 2018). Nvidia took 24 months to gain the same amount that Apple gained in over a decade.
Spotify, to give a sense of scale, is worth roughly $100 billion. The Magnificent Seven are worth nearly 240 “Spotify-scale” companies, each one. And that is before counting SpaceX, which hit $1.77 trillion at its June IPO and has since surpassed $2 trillion on the strength of Starlink’s revenue growth.
The other side of the ledger
The same report notes that the share of total corporate value going to employee wages is at its lowest since 1947. Profit margins are expanding at a pace not seen in the post-war era. The question of who is capturing the value of the AI-driven productivity wave is no longer a political abstraction — it is a line item on a quarterly earnings report.
Europe, meanwhile, continues to watch. The continent’s largest tech companies — ASML, SAP, Spotify, and a handful of mid-cap players — are a rounding error against the US cohort. The “Chapsvision” project, sometimes described as Europe’s anti-Palantir, recently secured its chief executive in the form of the former head of Italy’s civil protection agency. The scale of the ambition is one thing. The capital to back it is another.
